 Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation, [se'lenakinta'nija'peres]; April 16, 1971-March 31 1995) is also known as Selena, is a famous American Tejano performer. Selena was known as the "Queen Tejano music", her contribution to fashion and music helped make her one of the most well-known Mexican-American entertainers ever. Billboard magazine placed her at third place in 2020 in their "Greatest Latino Artists of All Time", which was built on Latin music and Latin albums. Her style of dress earned her the name "Tejano Madonna". Her clothes choices also makes her among the top Latin artists. Quintanilla, Suzette Quintanilla. Her reputation was frequently discredited in the 1980s , and was denied performances at Texas venues for her performance of Tejano music, a predominantly male-dominated genre. Her fame grew when she received the Tejano Music Award as Female Vocalist of the Year in 1987. She was awarded the award nine times. She was signed to EMI Latin in 1989. The album, titled self-titled, was released the following year. Her brother became her primary music producer as well as songwriter. Entre a Mi Mundo (1992) hit the top of the charts at 1 in the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums Chart for eight consecutive months. It was hailed by critics for being the "breakthrough" album of her career. "Como la Flor" One of the album's singles, became her most loved signature song. Live! Live! Amor Prohibido was her 1994 album. It was one of America's most listened-to Latin albums. It was critically acclaimed as being the catalyst for Tejano music's first commercially viable era and it became one of the most popular Latin music subgenres at the time.
